Why Wrap Your House?
In recent years, there have been many new products introduced to wrap around the exterior of a house before the siding is installed. Dupont's "Tyvek" was one of the first and hence one of the best known. We originally offered Tyvek as an option, then as a standard in all of our packages.
The purpose of these house wraps is to reduce air infiltration through normal construction gaps and cracks. The stopping of this air from getting into the structure has been proven to conserve energy, reduce heating and cooling costs, and create a more comfortable interior. In general, the thinking has been that the tighter a home the more comfortable and efficient.
With a house wrap covering

Without a house wrap covering
the exterior of your home, air can
penetrate construction gaps and cracks.Unfortunately, the tighter a home's exterior is the more susceptible it is to moisture problems that can cause mold, mildew, and rot. This problem is most commonly created when warm moist air from the inside of the home (from cooking, showers, etc.) finds its way into the wall cavity and condenses on the back side of a cooler exterior wall. Hence, the house wrap that is used must also be able to let moisture pass through while still keeping out drafts and direct water such as rain.
Furthermore, a house wrap must be strong enough to not easily be damaged during construction (a tear totally defeats the purpose of the wrap) and be easy to work with. Based upon our studies, we have concluded that Typar HouseWrap is a better product than Tyvek when all of these requirements are considered. Hence, we now provide only Typar HouseWrap as our standard house wrap.
